W.E.B. DuBois and Sloan Wilson both write about American life but at different times, places, and from different perspectives. In a 3-5 page paper, compare and contrast American life at two pivotal moments of American life. What do DuBois and Wilson’s main characters, Tom and Betsey Rath, expect from post-war life in the United States? In what ways are their expectations met? In what ways do the realities of their lives differ from their expectations? Finally, according to both authors, what role does/should family play in post-war American life?

Your essay should contain an introduction, topical paragraphs, and a conclusion.

You MUST cite your source when you use direct quotations AND when you paraphrase information. Citations should be parenthetical and follow the sentence. (Schulman, 54-57)
