This assignment is due no later than Sunday, November 28. Download and read the attached case and then completely answer each question below. Be sure to provide your rationale and a thorough explanation of your answers. Number each answer, but don’t repeat the questions in your paper since it just takes up valuable space! Take a look at the attached case to see how to format your citations within the text (narrative) and at the end of the paper (see the last page). There is not a set number of references that you should use for this assignment, but you should have at least a few. Be sure to put anything that you directly copy and paste within quotation marks and cite the source within the text (see the rules on plagiarism outlined in your syllabus). The recommended length for this assignment is 5 to 8 pages, including the References section (1″ margins, double-spaced, 12-point font size). Note that the TurnItIn Plagiarism Checker is turned on for this assignment. It will check for answers that are copied and pasted from the internet as well as from other students’ papers.
Read the attached case and then submit your answers to the following questions (submit as a Word file through the assignment dropbox):
(1) Do you think only certain individuals are attracted to these types of faculty jobs? Explain your answer. What characteristics of these jobs might contribute to increased levels of job satisfaction? Dissatisfaction?
(2) Which motivation theories apply to this case? Explain your answer. Does Expectancy Theory apply, and if so, how (explain)? What about Reinforcement Theory or Self-Determination Theory? Be sure to explain your answers.
(3) “If you can’t measure it, you can’t reward it.” How do you think faculty productivity should be measured? Discuss specifically what each measure should contain.
(4) Explain how Equity Theory might apply in this case. Do you think faculty are motivated by Equity perceptions? Why or why not? What are the “inputs” and “outcomes” that faculty compare to determine equity?
(5) If you were the Dean of this school, how could you reward faculty in ways that would allow you to restore equity but stay within your budget? Can you think of some cost-efficient and/or nonfinancial ways to reward faculty who are doing more than their fair share of the work?
Remember to cite any sources that you use within the narrative (text) as well as at the end of your submission (on the “References” page). If you copy and paste anything, be sure to put it within quotation marks and give credit to the source within the narrative as well as at the end of your submission (on the “References” page). Here is the rubric that I will use to grade this assignment:
