The 2020 presidential election probably received more media attention than any other presidential campaign in history. Pre-primary debates and campaign stops received unprecedented attention. The first presidential debate set the record for the largest viewership for a presidential debate. For some this attention increases public knowledge of the election while for others it overly emphasizes candidate personality and style. Does this attention aid the democratic process or does it influence the process by placing too much attention on the characteristics of candidates’ personality?
