For this forum post I would like you to focus on a particular career in public service at the state or local level. This might include a city economic development director, a police officer, a director of health or environmental protection and various other professions within the state or local bureaucracy. I would like you to first explain that profession and its roles / responsibilities. You may be able to gather job descriptions including knowledge, skills and abilities needed for that position from the human resources department for a state or local government. You can also look at job postings at (www.governmentjobs.com). After this, I would like you to explore those values, ethics and norms that you would have to have or cultivate in order to be successful at that position. Finally, I would like you to explain why someone would apply for that position. Try to explain the reasoning beyond pay and benefits. You may also explain this from your perspective i.e. why you would apply for that position.
