Read closely a homiletic reflection on revelation
Summarize the argument regarding how scripture should be read
Reflect on how the homily inspires the life and action of the Christian
Prompt:
Many today believe that “images” and “symbols”, especially in scripture, are vessels for emotions or ways of hiding the truth of things. The Catholic Church, in her art, architecture, and way of speaking, disagrees. How does Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (future Pope Benedict XVI) explain the ways “images” and “symbols” must be read as signs of a deeper reality? How do images and symbols, especially those of the creation accounts, help us understand the deeper meaning in Genesis?
