For each reading we do this quarter, you will complete 5-6 reading questions. These questions are intended to get you actively engaged in the reading. It is crucial that you do the reading for this course, and being an active reader will aid your comprehension and understanding. These questions should help you be more targeted in your reading and therefore get a better sense for whats at stake therein. Furthermore, these questions will provide you with a study guide for the quizzes as the quiz questions will be taken directly from the reading questions. 

Instructions: 

  1. In your responses, include only your name, the questions, and your answers to the questions.
  2. Number each question accordingly.
  3. Write in complete sentences.
  4. Write at least four sentences.
  5. USE ONLY THE SOURCE PROVIDED Beyond the Social Contract.pdf. 

a. In the first sentence, either paraphrase or directly quote the answer from the text. Provide the page number from which your drawing your answer. For our purposes, the page number alone will suffice. 

i. To paraphrase, state the answer in your own voice. The ideas remain the same, but the wording changes. 

b. In your second sentence, begin to articulate your own ideas about the text. Either articulate what confuses you, state what you take the author to be arguing, or apply the authors arguments to your own experience. 

Grading 

  1. I will not count off if your answer is incorrect as long as you answer in complete sentences and write at least four sentences. Dont be nervous about getting things wrong. Rather,   the purpose of these questions is to get you to read. You can and should be confused at the outset of a reading. My job is to help you navigate this confusion and achieve a better      understanding by the time weve completed the semester.
  2. Points will be taken off if your answers are not in complete sentences.
  3. Points will be taken off if page numbers are not provided for answers given in the first sentence.
  4. Points will be taken off if you do not have at least a second sentence in which you expand  upon the first sentence.
