Background: General Electric’s Aviation Division sells jet engines to aircraft manufacturers throughout the world. GE sells its jet engines at a price not far above their cost to manufacture the engines. They do so because their primary profit is from servicing the engines they sell. Scenario: You are the Human Resources Manager for ABC Technologies. Historically, ABC has manufactured farming equipment sold globally. Due to competitive pressure, ABC management has modified its strategic plan and is now adding an on-site service call division to provide maintenance and repair (MRO) of the equipment it sells. (ABC expects to reap profits from the MRO similar to those described in the GE background statement above.) Because this is a new corporate initiative, there are few employees in place with the skills necessary to perform the new tasks. Step 2: Create a presentation. As HR manager, you have been tasked with developing an eight- to 10-slide presentation outlining how ABC will staff its new MRO division. Corporate management has set aside one-half day in its manager retreat to review its HR needs. It will be your responsibility to ensure that management has an outline that addresses each of the following issues: How will HR recruit and select the new workforce? Include but do not limit your slides to the following: What skills will the workforce need? Can internal candidates be retrained? What will HR need from corporate management to ensure its new workforce aligns with ABC’s strategic plan? What initiatives will HR engage in to reach a goal of 90% employee retention after one year? Use images, tables, charts, etc. to add variety and interest as long as they also add value to your presentation. At the end of the presentation, cite the sources you used to complete it. Step 3: Create a progressive discipline plan. In 500 words, create a progressive discipline plan for ABC employees. ABC does not have any union employees. Begin your plan with four rules/regulations/policies that if violated will result in discipline. Then, construct a formal progressive discipline process. Include both the steps and which member or members of ABC are to be involved at each step. (Section one of your paper.)
