Part 1 – Cell Transport Structures

Part 2 – Reflection on ” Can you drink too much water?”
First, go through the short article attached to this assignment entitled “Ask Well: Can you drink too much water?” After you’ve read the article, respond to both of the prompts on the Diffusion and Osmosis worksheet using the information you have learned about Osmosis from the course. Your response should be approximately a paragraph in length and address all of the questions asked. Be sure to use proper spelling and grammar.

You are a doctor in a hospital, and a patient is experiencing trouble with her skin repairing itself from a cut. The patient is also expecting a child, but the cells in the reproduction development are experiencing malfunction in cell division.
Describe the stages of each type of cell reproduction process from a normal patient whose body cells can repair themselves and normal cell division during the reproductive development of the unborn baby.
Explain the disadvantages and advantages of each type of cell division.
Discuss how the patient experiencing problems with the cells repairing from the cut and the child’s reproduction development malfunctions can alter haploid and diploid cell development.

Students are expected to write about Sickle Cell Disease. You should cite the known alterations in specific genes or chromosomes resulting in dysfunction of proteins and/or problems of biological processes involved in the disease as mechanisms on cellular and molecular levels. Your report should be 6-12 pages total (double space), including references and figures. Do not count the cover page. (10 points) Introduction to the genetic disorder: general background information including the disorder definition, characteristics, cause, syndrome, population distribution etc.
(20 points) Body of the report: starting with the genes and gene products (RNAs or proteins) involved in certain normal cellular functions to describe how/what goes wrong to cause the disorder, such as gene mutation, abnormal chromosome structure or number, dysfunction of proteins, or abnormal function of proteins.
