Research proposal on “Evaluation of the relation between diet, body composition and mood in university students”

Research Proposal Information
You will be allocated a topic which you should draw a research question from. The topic is:
Evaluation of the relation between diet, body composition and mood in university students
As part of the research process, you will produce a research proposal to include a title, introduction with the aim and specific objectives, materials and methods, costings, timescales using a Gantt Chart to include timescale and the order of the investigation. Also the ethics release form needs to be filled out and create a consent form and participant information sheet. Also an example of a recruitment email, health and risk assessment forms, any questionnaire you might wish to use or diet diary that you will give participants. Also if piloting the study write about this in methods (what will you do to pilot the study) before what you will do for data collection.
full instructions are on document “notes on research proposal” attached.

Homework: Quotes

This Homework assignment is referring to 3 quotes. Please try to think deeply about what the authors are saying. Think a bit about who they are and what it means for them to say what they did.
THREE QUOTES TO CONSIDER:
• Dr. Richard Horton, Editor-in-chief at Lancet:
o “The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.”

• Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician Editor in Chief of the New England Medical Journal:
o It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine”

• Arnold Seymour Relman (1923-2014), Harvard Professor of Medicine and Former Editor-in-Chief of the New England Medical Journal
o “The medical profession is being bought by the pharmaceutical industry, not only in terms of the practice of medicine, but also in terms of teaching and research. The academic institutions of this country are allowing themselves to be the paid agents of the pharmaceutical industry. I think it’s disgraceful.”
What To Do
Copy and paste the questions in bold into a Word document. Save it as “Quotes.” Do not type your answers in bold. Keep the organization the same as below.

1. Describe who authored each quote and why his/her opinion matters.
2. For each of the 3 quotes, paraphrase what was said. Write a few sentences in your own words that gives me the main message of the quote.
3. Take home message: After you finish questions one and two, take a moment to process what the information means. Write a few sentences to answer what this means for us, as nutrition science students? How should we proceed? We need to learn about nutrition so how should we continue on? Why did we bother to learn the “gold standards” for research if these quotes are true?

Homework: Types of Research, Based on the video “Dark Chocolate and Artery Function”

Copy and paste the words below into a Word document. Save the Word doc as “Types of Research.” Answer each question. Leave my writing in bold but write your answers not-bold.
1: Vet Dr. Greger.
Who is he?
Can we trust his opinion and research? Why/Why not?
Does he benefit from you taking his advice? Does he run ads on his website? How much does his app cost?
Cite your sources. None of them should be Dr.Greger’s own website.
Do not plagiarize! If you would like to quote someone, do so properly.
2: Look at his sources cited. List the journals that are peer-reviewed.
Dr. Greger mentions several studies in the video. All are listed on his website https://nutritionfacts.org/video/dark-chocolate-and-artery-function/
that contains the video. Take a look at the sources cited list. Of the 11 studies he reviewed in order to make the video, write down which of the 11 journals cited are peer-reviewed.
Only write down the Journal name, do not write the entire citation.
For example: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition or the British Medical Journal.
Citations for Journals are written: Last name, First name. “Title.” Journal name. Volume (year): pages.
If you are unfamiliar with reading a works cite page, please open up the document in “Course Home” called Citing Examples of Web Sites, Journals and Books.doc.
Can’t tell whether the journal is peer-reviewed? Try googling it. Or, check PubMed. PubMed is a research database that only cites peer-reviewed journals. If you can find the journal on PubMed, rest assured it is a peer-reviewed journal and you can add it to your list.
Question 3: How much cocoa was of benefit: _____ teaspoon(s.) The benefits will be negated if the chocolate also has the ingredients ______ and _______.

Unintentional Weight Loss Among the Elderly in Long-Term Care and Nursing Homes

Literature Review in APA 7th ed format, primarily qualitative study with quantitative data added.
Problem Statement: What effect do nutritional interventions have in preventing or managing unintentional weight loss in long-term care facilities or nursing homes?
Attached is the preferred outline for the Lit review. I have attached what I have so far. You can build on the annotated bibliography since I gathered my sources. You can add sources if need be. I also started working on the introduction and the subtopics for the lit review. You can add and edit all the information as you see fit.
Thank you!

SPORTS NUTRITION PROJECT PAPER

Project: The goals of this project are to research current literature and design a case study interrelating sport science and nutrition. To begin the project, you will need to select and identify:
• A sport or activity of interest to you
• A subject (cannot be yourself)
• 4 nutrition parameters (graduate students): Fluid, calories, carbohydrates, protein, etc.
Using these interests, you will do a literature search to lay the background for your paper. You need to submit documentation of 8 resources (graduate).
1. For the athlete that you choose, you will do a two day dietary recall to obtain the athlete’s current diet and print out the daily food log and reports. Use any online analysis program you want, such as www.myplate.gov, www.loseit.com, or www.myfitnesspal.com. You must provide me with a copy of your recorded food intake when you turn in the assignment. You can refer to the assignment from week one for steps on using the online analysis programs.
2. Compare the athlete’s current dietary intake to the recommended dietary needs based on your current literature search on the sport.
3. What are the athlete’s specific nutrition recommendations based on the main energy system being used and type of sport (strength/power, endurance, ultraendurance, etc)?
4. Does the athlete’s diet meet the recommendation for your chosen nutrition parameters? If not, what are some specific recommendations that you would make to the athlete to improve their diet to meet their nutritional needs? If they are meeting some or all of the nutritional requirements, what are they and why will they help the athlete?
5. Length of paper should be 5 pages for graduate students.

After reading the case study below, you will provide the patient with suggestions to increase his intake to prevent weight loss and muscle wasting. You will find Writing Guidelines at the end of this document that will assist you in meeting the expectations for writing your care plan. (fill out the worksheet i have attached in the attachment section)
Case study:
Steve Palmer has been undergoing chemotherapy for liver cancer. In the past 3 months, Mr. Palmer has lost 25 pounds from his pre-cancer weight of 190 lbs. He is 6 ft 2 inches tall. He reports decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, and dry mouth. He reports feeling full quickly and extreme fatigue. His oncologist refers him to you for suggestions on increasing his food intake.
