These are the objectives given. I need a work cited page as well.
Identify and list the gestures, subjects, iconography, narrative elements, and symbols used in artworks
Analyze the iconography of artworks
Interpret iconographic symbols and their role in creating visual communication
Define the meaning of subjects and symbols and their role in communicating content in artworks
Explain the context of iconography in relation to various narrative elements, and/or symbols in artworks; sometimes the meaning of an iconographic element changes in the context of the overall image or setting
Explain their value and role in communicating narrative and meaning in artworks.
Interpret the overall narrative of an image through it’s iconographic elements; decide if an image has more than one meaning or interpretation through the symbols and narratives included in the work; and define the meaning or interpret both meanings and speak to their interconnection or relationship to the audience
Develop an essay with a thesis statement/introduction, supporting body, and conclusion that synthesizes the statements and thesis into a final idea about what the audience should remember and take away from the assignment
Use description as evidence to support the thesis and any other support statements.
Use CRAAP standards to evaluate sources for academic value.
Use the Chicago or Turabian citation method to document sources.
In addition to finding sources as research, you will need to provide evidence in the form of descriptions of the work.
Analysis through Iconology
This kind of analysis usually is most useful for narrative works and art before the Modern period. Non-objective art or art with arbitrary subjects (such as DADA) don’t work as well with this kind of analysis because narratives and conventional symbols are not a part of these works. Here you will look for a particular element that occurs in the object (an object, action, gesture, pose) and explain either:
When that same element occurs in other objects through history and how this object’s representation of it is unique, or…
What that element means generally in art or to art historians—in other words, the traditional association an art historian might make between that depiction and some other thing.
The following video provides an example of Iconological analysis. The video speaks to the meaning of the gestures, iconography, meaning of certain types of depiction, and other narrative imagery and symbolism related to those narrative elements.

Please asnwer the follow 9 questions following the format given.
1. Introduce your assigned works of Art.
What is the title of these artworks?
Who made them?
When were they made?
Where were they made?
What kind of objects are these artworks?
[Write it as one or two sentence(s), as if you are writing in an essay introduction. Make sure to address all of the sub-questions.]
2.Describe and analyze the Medium (materials) and Scale (size) of the works.
What materials were used to create them?
What is the significance of such materials?
How do the materials affect the final product?
What is the size/scale of the works?
What does the scale of the works tell you? How does the scale affect the viewer’s experience/perception?
[Write it as a few comparative sentences, as if you are writing in an essay. Make sure to address all of the sub-questions.]
3.Describe some Visual Elements of the work and analyze their effects.
COMPOSITION: How is the image composed? What impression does the composition make on the viewer?
VIEWPOINT: What is the viewer’s viewpoint? What is the effect of the viewpoint?
LINE and SHAPE: What kind of lines and shapes do we see in this work? What effect do the lines and shapes have?
COLOR and TEXTURE: What kind of colors and textures are used? What effect do the color and texture have?
LIGHT: What kind of light is used? What effect does it have?
[Again, write it as comparative sentences, every time moving from one artwork to the other. Use transition words like “similarly” or “contrary.” Answer every sub-question. If some of the sub-questions don’t apply, include other formal elements that might be more applicable. Ideally, you should write a paragraph of at least 14 sentences, following this template with transition words.]
4.Think about the “Style” of the works.
What is the style of each of the artworks? Do they exhibit main characteristics of each of the dominant styles, or do they look like exceptions to the rule? List those characteristics.
[Write it as comparative sentences, as if you are writing in an essay.]
5.Describe and analyze the Subject Matter and Iconography (symbols that the artist used to tell the story).
What is depicted in each artwork?
Is there a narrative/story? If so, how is the story communicated? What are the attributes and symbols that are used to express the subject and narrative?
[Again, write it as comparative sentences, every time moving from one artwork to the other. Use transition words like “similarly” or “contrary.”]
6.Think about the original Purpose of each work.
What was or might have been their original locations? What is the significance of each of the locations?
Who was or might have been each intended audience?
What purpose might each work have originally served?
Who commissioned each work?
What might have been each patron’s motivation? How did the motivation affect each work?
What was the intended message of each artwork? Who benefited from this message?
Why was this object or structure made?
[Again, write it as comparative sentences, every time moving from one artwork to the other. Use transition words like “similarly” or “contrary.” Answer every sub-question. Ideally, you should write a paragraph of at least 14 sentences, following this template with transition words.]
7.Finally, think about the Historical Context that helps us to analyze the works.
What historical period was each work created in?
Which important historical events might have affected each work?
What was the structure of society at that time and place?
What was the dominant religion at that time and place?
How are religion, culture, society, and historical events reflected in each artwork?
[Again, write it as comparative sentences, every time moving from one artwork to the other. Use transition words like “similarly” or “contrary.” Answer every sub-question. Ideally, you should write a paragraph of at least 14 sentences, following this template with transition words.]
8.Think of this as a part of the essay’s conclusion.
Can we say that each work contributed to the culture of their time? Explain.
9.Write a thesis statement that argues the compare and contrast of the two objects within the assigned prompt.
[The ideal compare and contrast argument will have the “even though” or “although” structure. Try to be very specific. Use more than one sentence, if needed.]

This weeks art shall come from inside of a public building.
Art All Around assignments consist of describing and analyzing works of art and architecture that you encounter on a regular basis. It should not be a work that you yourself have created as the objective of this assignment is to appreciate art created by others. This is an exercise to increase your awareness and appreciation of art that you encounter on a regular basis. If you are a world traveler, then by all means share art from around the world with us. However, the photo of the artwork should be created specifically for this assignment (meaning, don’t just look through your past photos for something that serves the purpose – instead, notice the art around you this week).
In each week’s blog title, a different location will be indicated for the week, such as HOME, WORK/CAMPUS, TOWN, etc. For example, in the first AAA blog the theme is HOME and that is the location in which you should be finding the work of art. Name your post with the location, type of art it is, or another descriptive title.
Though you are providing a photo of the artwork, your photo is not the work of art. For example, a photo you have taken of a beautiful sunset is not acceptable. A photo of a painting portraying a sunset that is hanging on the wall of your workplace would be acceptable.
Two or more descriptive paragraphs are to be written about each of the chosen artworks, using the criteria for ‘What is Art’ as explained in Chapter Two of the text, and the concepts and language of art elements and principles found in Chapters Four and Five, as well as any other text reference. These entries should include a photograph of the artwork.
Consider how the following relate to your artwork and address them in your post:
Is the artwork representational or abstract?
If it’s not either of those, would you call it nonrepresentational? What makes it so?
In your own words, briefly describe the style used in the painting. Don’t worry about identifying the art historical style such as impressionistic or cubist; just describe how it was painted (cartoonish, childlike, very stiff, etc.).
What is the form (the physical appearance) and what is the content (subject matter)?
Remember to embed your image with your text, but do not attach it in a Word document. (Instructions for how to embed an image with your text are in the Student Questions discussion board. Please avoid .heic files as they require downloading to view) Check your post after creating it to be sure your image embedded or attached correctly to avoid any loss of points.

Visit a virtual gallery or museum and choose a work of art to critique. Visually analyze the work of art and critique it based on the visual elements of art (line, shape, color, etc. – use your lecture notes), principles of design (rhythm, composition, balance, etc. – use your lecture notes), subject matter, content, and function. What is the medium? Who is the artist? What is the title and what was the date when it was created?Next, choose a work of art we have studied in class, and conduct a visual analysis of it. Include the visual elements (line, shape, color, texture, etc.), principles of design (rhythm, composition, balance, etc.), function, subject matter, and content. What is the medium? Who is the artist? What is the title and what was the date when it was created? Compare your virtual art gallery or museum choice with the work you choose from class. Describe why it is an interesting comparison – the works of art must have something in common, whether it is the subject matter, the content, the medium, the artist, or the function. Determine which work of art is more appealing or effective. Use at least 5 vocabulary words from lecture to describe the work of art at the gallery or museum and 5 vocabulary words to describe the other work of art from lecture. This exercise is intended for you to apply concepts and vocabulary learned in class to a work of art in a gallery or museum. Go look at some works of art and enjoy yourself!
