This exam consists of two main questions with a free-response format. An “Answer page” is provided to
submit your response. The “Answer page” will be submitted in Canvas using Turnitin by the specified
deadline November 6, 2022 at 11:00 PM.
All written responses must be in your own words and address all aspects of the question. Your response
should demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. References to all sources should be
provided in a separate “Reference page”. In the text, sources should be referenced with a number in
brackets [1]. Drawings and sketches to accompany your response will be provided in a separate
document “Drawing page” and submitted in the Drawing and Reference assignment link in Canvas. Any
picture/images that will aid your response can also be added to the “Drawing page”.
“Answer page” document: Font “Times New Roman”, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing. Document format Word
document with file extensions “.doc” or “.docx”. You may use Google Docs and save your work in the file
extensions mentioned above.
Course material to be evaluated: In this exam you will be evaluated in the topics of “Mass Spectrometry
Approaches in Drug Analysis”, “Development and Validation of Analytical Methods” and the “Chemistry
and Analysis of Stimulants and Depressants” (Modules 5-8). The purpose of this evaluation is to
demonstrate ability to apply concepts learned in the course to the analysis of drugs in a mock case
scenario and to demonstrate knowledge of the different components and operations of an analytical
instrument. The extent to which you understand the operation of an instrument and the steps of an
analysis will help in the data interpretation process.
Sources of additional reference: It is expected that you use the material/textbook/handouts provided in
the course to answer the questions.
