Issues of Sex and Gender in Society Today
Identify an issue that is facing our society today that is in some way related to sex and/or gender and has opposing sides. Consider a law that was recently put into or taken out of effect or is being debated. You could also look to the statements or actions of a public figure or organization that has generated significant attention from the media. The issue you select should have ample material from which you may pull to gain insight into the details surrounding it. Feel free to email your instructor if you would like to verify that an issue is appropriate or if you would like some suggestions as to what you could cover.
Explore multiple sides of the issue you have selected until you have a good understanding as to why each side believes it is right. Research the historical events that have caused the circumstances of this issue. Engage in discussions with others who have strong feelings about the issue to learn the reasons why they feel they way they do.
Make sure you research both sides thoroughly as your goal with this paper will be to write it in a manner that does not allow the reader to know which side of the issue that you are on. You will not be condoning or condemning either side- your goal is to be as objective as possible in reviewing the issue you select.
Construct a 1,000-1,250 word essay that demonstrates your understanding of the following:
* The issue that you have identified (a concise synopsis of what the issue is)
* Historical context (previous events in history that have contributed to the rise of the issue)
* Both sides of the current argument (provide an objective review- the reader should not know which side of the issue that you personally are on)
* At least two possible resolutions to the issue (include the potential ramifications of each resolution for both sides)
Your paper should include an introduction and conclusion, at least 5 cited references (only 2 of which may be your discussions with others, excluding those identified as subject matter experts in your writing), and must adhere to APA formatting.

Read Chapter 2 and have a clear understanding about the different theories (read them all so that the most appropriate theories can be applied when building your case). You need to be able to advocate for Mr. Wilson. Therefore, you need to be able to paint the picture about what you see that has happened and what should change. Please include the following 6 prompts below in your persuasive approach as you advocate for what you deem would be justice served. Remember you are the expert witness, and your testimony can help explain human sexuality as it relates to what happened in the Genarlow Wilson case for future research practice and positive outcomes.
Make sure to start this letter off with a salutation to the judge. i.e., Dear Honorable Judge Kimberly R, Davis. The full article is provided and should be read and used as you build your case. Respond to the following 6 prompts with complete sentences in paragraph form. Each page should have a page number. The assignment should be written in Times New Roman with a 12 font. Please include a title page, a reference page that includes your textbook, the article, and other resources if you want to add them to strengthen your assignment. The title page and the reference page will not count against your page limitation. Please make sure to review the rubric at the end of this assignment.

Imagine that you are a psychologist trained as a sexologist. You will testify as an expert witness to give testimony as a viable alternative to prison or a lesser sentence.
In your letter (2-3 pages double spaced) you will provide quotes and page numbers from chapter 2 of your textbook, and reference the article when answering the following 6 prompts:
1. Provide a definition for human sexuality.
2. Share a definition of what a sexologist is and what you do.
3. Discuss what research and researchers say, (build your case).
4. Recommend sex education and professional counseling. Choose at least 2 theories in sexuality, explain what the research says about them that could help explain not defend Mr. Wilson’s actions. In your professional opinion why do you think the theoretical approaches would work best?
5. What research question comes to your mind that you have a theory about? Include the question in your letter to the judge? The research question if answered should have a positive impact toward the betterment of future human sexuality practices. Make sure to share the specific methodology that you feel would work best with collecting the data needed to address the solution to your research question.
6. Resist the temptation to bring in your personal bias and emotions. Part 1 permitted your personal thoughts. Please stick to the facts and stay in character as the expert witness while being professional when addressing the judge.
