1. Section Summary
A. Individual Reading Summaries: Begin by recounting the main points or themes and define any key terms in EACH of the readings/videos for that section. Each summary should be a few sentences up to two short paragraphs. Key terms may be bulleted.
B. Compare and contrast the main points of all the assigned readings/materials: What do they all have in common? How are terms used in one reading applicable to the other readings? Note any important differences between the readings. (An important difference is one where the ideas of the first limit or contradict the ideas of the second.) This section should be one to four paragraphs.
C. Provide an overall summary of the assigned materials. What is the “take-away message” from them as a whole? Summarize, but don’t editorialize; save your opinions for section 2. This section should be one paragraph.
2. Personal Reflection
Here, reflect upon the chapters. This section should be approximately one to two pages total.
A. What thoughts and feelings do you have about the assigned materials? On what are you basing your opinions?
B. What don’t you understand and why? Where are you being challenged to examine your previous beliefs and opinions?
C. What more would you like to know?
Note: a good opinion is one that first shows it properly understands the material, clearly states one’s thoughts and feelings and supports those thoughts and feelings with factual evidence.
For example:
Good opinion: Cardi B is the best musician because she is one of only two artists to have multiple singles on Billboard’s Hot 100.
This opinion has some merit. First, it is a fact that Cardi B has had multiple hit singles on Billboard (this fact is easily proven by going to the Billboard website), so the premise upon which it is based is solid. Second, many would consider ranking on Billboard as a good indicator of musical success, so it likely that the author has some clue as to what makes for a good musician.
3. Multi-media/Cultural Artifact Application
Beyond critically reflecting on the readings, it is important to see how what we are reading and discussing in class relates to the everyday world of U.S. society. In order to make these connections, you are to examine popular culture in such sources as newspapers, magazines, movies, TV shows, music videos and lyrics, CD covers, others’ blogs, photographs, memes, artwork—any and all elements from popular culture and/or the mass media. These things are called cultural artifacts. I believe that many of you will already know some songs, videos, blogs, etc. that connect to the assigned materials.
A. Select a cultural artifact that connects to the week’s assigned materials.
Briefly but adequately describe the cultural artifact you’ve chosen to apply to the assigned readings. Scan, copy or download and attach/embed or provide a link to the media article, as best available. Where known, state the artist or creator, date of creation, and any important facts about the artifact.
B. Relate the cultural artifact to the topics and materials discussed in the readings. BE SPECIFIC! Answer as many of the following questions are relevant: How does it support or contradict the readings? What does this artifact mean in light of the readings? Does it work to maintain or challenge dominant ideas about race, class, gender or sexuality? How has this cultural artifact contributed to your understanding of the concepts from the readings? How has your understanding of the readings and course concepts contributed to your understanding of this piece of media? (note, you need not answer each of these questions–they are just to guide your thinking).
Some of the readings have specific page numbers:
-Unit I: An Introduction to Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies: Grounding: Theoretical Frameworks and Concepts–IWGSS, pp. 2-32
-Unit V: Historical and Contemporary Feminist Social Movements Intro to Women’s & Gender Studies — IWGSS, pp.105-125
-Pathways_State of the Union_2018.pdf
Above is the entire report which is 30 graphics-heavy pages, but you only need to read these Four sections: Earnings, p. 20; Poverty, p. 23; Social Networks, p. 42; Policy, p.45 which correspond to economic, social and political forms of power.
This is the 1 reading and 1 movie link for the assignment that is going to be in the paper. Wasn’t able to download them.

I uploaded specific instructions (see attached) This is a very short assignment,

I uploaded specific instructions (see attached) This is a very short assignment, approximately 5 to 6 sentences. The assignment asks that you analyze and synthesize the readings “in your own words” and cite three of the sources. I am not clear what synthesize mean, or how to create a meaningful paper in 5 to 6 sentences so I will be very interested to see what you put together. Thank you!

Introduction Research an activist organization or advocacy group that is working

Introduction
Research an activist organization or advocacy group that is working to transform dominant forms of masculinity as they relate to gender norms, race, sexuality, class, and other social systems. Although the group or organization you focus on should be based in the U.S., their work should connect to contemporary global issues related to masculinities such as globalization, labor organizing, ending gender-based violence, environmental degradation and climate change, prison abolition, etc.
Create a poster (in PowerPoint) that showcases the organization or group you researched and demonstrate knowledge of the strategies the group has developed to challenge and transform dominant masculinities.
Instructions
The research poster represents a visual synthesis of thoughts and research on the organization or group that you focus on in your project. As a visual aid, your poster should gather together photos, artwork, graphics, and other images to illustrate your research and the strategies that your group or organization relies on to transform masculinities.
Your poster must contain the following components:
1. a title
2. the name and geographic location(s) where your group or organization is active
3. a brief summary of the history of the group or organization, the people and communities involved, and the cultural and political context in which they work
4. a discussion of 3 strategies that your group or organization relies on and how they deploy those strategies in their efforts to transform dominant forms of masculinity
In addition to the poster, create a 2-page report (intended to be read as a speech) to present research conducted on the organization.
Also include works cited.
(Note: PowerPoint has templates for research posters.)

In English, there are multiple expressions that reinforce masculine gender norms

In English, there are multiple expressions that reinforce masculine gender norms and binaristic thinking about gender roles in society. The expression “be a man” comes to mind as does “boys don’t cry,” in addition to many others. Such language can have violent and traumatic impacts on children and young people who may then feel that their experience of gender doesn’t match up with powerful and oppressive social and cultural norms.
Drawing on the readings and videos this week, choose one expression you’re familiar with in English.
Analyze that expression through the critical feminist lenses you’ve been learning about this week. Use the following questions to guide your analysis:
• In what social and cultural situations is this expression used? For example, have you heard it at athletic events, at family gatherings, in classes?
• Who or what does the expression refer to?
• What message does the expression send about masculine gender norms?
• In what ways is that message not only about gender, but also about race, class, sexuality, (dis)ability, and other social systems?
• What ideas from the readings and videos do you find helpful in seeking to understand this expression?
Paper should be between 250 and 300 words long. The paper should demonstrate ability to make connections between course readings and materials on the one hand and thoughts and insights about masculinities on the other.
You must make reference to at least 3 of the learning resources listed in the attached materials. However, you should not include entire quotes from the resources. Whenever you refer to a reading or other materials, use parenthetical citations including the author’s last name and the page number that you’re referring to, for example, (Hearn 55). If there is no page number (i.e., in a video), just use the title of the source, e.g., (Crenshaw, “The Urgency of Intersectionality”).
