A. 無常 (むじょう), impermanence, is a pervasive Buddhism concept that played an important role in Japanese culture from 平安時代 to 江戸時代. 無常 (むじょう) is perceived differently reflecting each period’s social mood and cultural taste. 1) For each of 平安, 鎌倉, and 室町時代, describe how 無常 (むじょう) is perceived and quote poetry, an opening passage, or part of a paragraph from a piece of literature that shows 無常 (むじょう) and discuss the way in which the concept is expressed in it (cite the source too); 2) for 江戸時代, describe how 無常 (むじょう) is perceived and discuss the way in which 浮世 (うきよ) represents the notion of 無常 (むじょう) in its townsmen culture.
