Directions:
A peer-reviewed research journal article is to be read and summarized in your own words. You must also, clearly communicate how this article relates to what you have studied in lecture or lab (depending on which class you are registered in). If you are in lecture and lab you must do two different projects.
You can choose articles from the field of astronomy, mechanics (motion), energy, waves, or thermodynamics.
Several acceptable articles can be found by using the e-databases at the college library of your choice. You might also find acceptable articles from scholarly e-journals that are online but be careful many times these articles must be purchased.
Several students have also found acceptable articles at HINDAWI (Links to an external site.) www.hindawi.com. You might also try using the the ArXiv mobile app that is freely available in the Google Play store or the iTunes store. Look for the logo below to make sure that you have the correct app.
Your article (not your summary) must be a minimum of 15 pages long not counting the references
Get your article approved before you begin any work. The deadline for article approval is 11:59pm on Saturday, 25 June 2022. To get your Project article approved, please attach the full article as a pdf file and email it to me at ezenon@nunez.edu. If you do not get an article approved by the deadline, you will automatically lose 20 points from the Article Choice category that is listed on the Project Scoring Rubric.
If you do not get an article approved, you can still do the project, but be aware that there could be point deductions beyond the 20 points in the Article Choicecategory. You could get a zero on the project if your “article or source” is not approved, and any one of the following:
Your “article or source” does not meet the required length of 15 pages not counting references
Your “article or source” is not on one of the topics listed above
Your “article or source” is not from a peer-reviewed journal
The summary is to be a minimum of two pages in length, typed double space in 12-point font.
Your first sentence should be:
I am summarizing the article named_________, written by________, published in the year ________.
Use APA format for the layout and structure of the paper (margins 1″ all around and double spacing, etc.) Use APA format except you do not need an abstract since your summary is a kind of abstract already. Put an ID bock in the upper left corner that is single spaced. The ID block should have your name, my name, your class and section, and the date. Also, you do not need a running header. Use an abbreviated header with your name and page number in the upper right corner. In addition, do not use in-text citations. In-text citations are not needed since your entire summary is pertaining to only the one article that you are using, and you do not have multiple sources. Also, if you quote material from the article, use quotation marks and put the page number in parenthesis after you close the quote. Use the picture templates in the Project folder on Canvas as guides (spacing in pictures is not to APA scale). Resources for APA format (Links to an external site.) can be found at www.apa.org and OWL Purdue (Links to an external site.)https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_style_introduction.html; A sample paper using APA format (Links to an external site.) can be found at
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/apa_sample_paper.html
Include a reference page with the submission of your summary. Be sure to cite your article using APA style. The only item that should be listed on your reference page is the article that you are summarizing. Do not include citations for Wikipedia, books, or other articles since they are not valid sources for this project. Only your article is to be used to complete this project! If you do not include a properly formatted reference page with your submission, you will automatically lose 5 points in the Mechanics/Requirement category that is listed on the Project Scoring Rubric.
Avoid Plagiarism: A good website that discusses plagiarism (Links to an external site.) is http://www.plagiarism.org/. Additional information on avoiding plagiarism is on Canvas. Plagiarism of any kind will result in forfeiture of all points, and a zero for your project score.
Include a full copy of your article with the submission of your summary. If you do not include a full copy of your article with your submission, you will automatically lose 5 points in the Mechanics Requirement category that is listed on the Project Scoring Rubric. Project Submission Instructions are on Canvas.
This project is worth 100 points. The Project Scoring Rubric is available on Canvas. I will provide scoring feedback for your project NLT one week after the project due date.
