Overview of Assignment
In the real world, entry level recreation practitioners are often tasked with developing and/or managing a budget for the
organization they are employed by. Because these budgets are so integral to the organization’s financial health, it is
critical for students to develop this skillset. After completing a unit on budgeting and Excel, students will be tasked with
developing an operating budget for a fictional recreation organization. Once completed, students should save the file
using the assignment name, your last name, and Part 1.
Prior to developing your budget, you will need to identify a name and profile for your fictional recreation organization.
Your organization should be either a public parks and recreation department, a not-for-profit leisure service
organization, or a commercial recreation agency. The organization name and a short description (2-3 sentences) should
be included in your Table of Contents page. Do this first, as the organization you choose will impact the types of
programs you include in your budget.
