The purpose of this project is to provide opportunities and experiences applying your knowledge of sport and exercise psychology principles to a practical setting.
Select a problem or situation you have observed in a physical activity setting that could be prevented or ameliorated (improved upon) using the principles you have learned in sport and exercise psychology. Please limit your selection of problems or situations to the following areas:
Motivation
Imagery
Self-confidence
You may consider situations that you might encounter as a coach, physical educator, athletic trainer or physical therapist, fitness professional, and so on. In other words, although the type of problem that you tackle is limited (e.g., arousal regulation), the situation to which you choose to apply your knowledge is not. Design a program or intervention to prevent or improve the situation. Be specific!
In the event that you encounter this situation in the real world, you should be able to use the material that you’ve developed for this project.
Note: If you choose a topic or intervention based on a chapter not yet covered in class, you are responsible for being familiar with the material relevant to that chapter when designing your program or intervention.

Typed outline of the intervention (3-page maximum; with in-text citations as appropriate), including:Introductory paragraph – describe the situation, activity, individual(s), age, skill or ability level, and other pertinent circumstances to the situation for which you are designing your mental skills intervention
Body paragraphs – explaining and outlining the program (see chapter 12 as needed)How will it work? What are the elements or components involved?
If it is designed to take place in stages and over time, then what are the stages and how long do you expect each to last?
How often should each stage or part of the intervention occur?
How will you measure the effectiveness of the program?
Conclusion – limitations of the program, modifications needed if working with different individual(s)/groups and associated explanations

Specific handouts or documents that would be used directly with the client, patient, student, exerciser, athlete, or other performer (e.g., goal setting handout, imagery script).
For example, if you’re doing a goal-setting intervention for high school basketball players, develop the actual form you would use for recording goals.
The KEY to this part of the assignment is to be specific AND creative! These should be materials that you can use with clients later.
