This week we learned about Mindfulness-based stress reduction and how mindfulness can be studied scientifically, and techniques are available to help with anxiety, stress, and other emotions.

MBSR is based in the combination of psychological assessment, clinical psychotherapy and social work, science and the practice of mindfulness based in Buddhist practices and philosophy.
1.Knowing more about MBSR, can you see advantages to combining science, what we know about meditation, and therapy? What are some benefits to approaching mindfulness in this way?
2. Did any thoughts come to mind about disadvantages to approaching meditation from a Western or scientific perspective? What disadvantages could you see from this?
3. Do you think mindfulness and meditation could be used to treat mental and physical illness? Why or why not? If so, what kinds of conditions might mindfulness be useful in treating?
