2-3 pages, double spaced
12-point, Times New Roman font

Introduction/body/conclusion
Details including all the five senses, if possible.
A beginning, middle, an end, characters, conflict, and a purpose
Transitions, when necessary
No taboo words (good, bad, thing, stuff, etc., or use of parentheses, contractions) except when using dialogue.
This first paper’s topic is on racial strife. You are to write a story regarding an issue of racism of some kind. You can choose the location, time period, conflict, and purpose. It does not have to be based on Born a Crime, but if you want to use Noah as the protagonist (or any other character for that matter), you absolutely can. This story does not have to be fictional; if you know of a personal story of racism, you can use that as well.
This essay should be about the struggles of oppression as well as the opportunities for someone who overcomes racism. Make sure you use the components of a descriptive narrative as discussed in class.
In this paper, you may use first person. This essay is a descriptive narrative, and it can be used throughout. Just note that future papers will not be narratives; therefore, using the word ‘I’ should not be as common.
Your heading in the upper left corner should be as follows:
