5. ETHICS PAPER – The student is required to write a paper on ethics in professional counseling (either clinical mental health counseling or school counseling depending on your specialization). The paper should clearly show that the student understands the ethical and legal aspects of the counseling profession and rely heavily on the use of the code of ethics from your specialization. 3. Theory Case Study
In your Case Study, you are to first choose an evidence-based counseling theory that we have discussed, or will discuss in class. If you would like to choose a theory that has not been addressed in class, you must discuss it with me ahead of time. In your paper, make sure you use the following to support your stance:
1. Describe the client’s problems/challenges in your own words (case conceptualization). What are the factors that you see contributing to these problems?
2. Based upon how you see this client’s problem, which evidenced-base theory would you use to work with this client? Describe in detail why this would be the best approach.
3. Choose appropriate goals for this client.
4. What counseling interventions specific to this theory would you use? Why?
5. Describe several possible positive outcomes for this client due to these interventions.
6. Chose another theory (preferably evidenced-based) and describe how you would work with the
same client using this second theory using the above format.
7. What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of combing these two approaches with this
client.
8. The Case Study will be based on the individual of your choice, dead or alive/fictional/non-fiction

1. Start your paper with a title page, correctly formatted per current APA. Use the provided template and the basic current APA components will be in place. Divide your paper into sections with the following Level One headings: Summary, Reflection, and Applications as described on the template.
2. Develop a summary of the main concepts from the article. Do not duplicate the article’s abstract. If the article describes a research study, include brief statements about the hypotheses, methods, results, discussion, and implications. If any test measures or statistical methods used are given in the article, do not provide detailed descriptions of these. Short direct quotations from the article are acceptable but avoid long quotes in a paper this size. This section is the foundation of your Journal Article Review (at least a third of your paper). Make sure you include the core points from the article, even if it means a longer section. Do not reference any additional articles in your summary.
3. In approximately 1+ page, reflect on the article using your own words. Appropriate comments for this part of the paper could include, but are not limited to, your initial response to the article, comments regarding the study’s design or methodology (if any), insights you gained from reading the article, your reasons for being interested in this particular article, any other readings that you may plan to do based upon having read the article, and other thoughts you have that might further enhance the discussion of your article. Your subjective comments in this section must be clearly tied to the main points from the article, not peripheral ideas. Again, do not reference any other article.
4. In your final section, in approximately 1+ page(s), write how you would apply the information you have learned from this article to a particular counseling setting. Make this setting one that would typically be seen in human services counseling—community services agencies, adoption agencies, volunteer counseling settings such as in churches, etc. Develop this section as if you are a pastor or clinician and your parishioner or client has come to you with a problem—grief, depression, substance abuse, relationships problems, etc.—

You are challenged to connect with a group or individual you have the most preconceived notions or ideas. This can but does not have to be an issue or topic including cultural, religious, sexual identity, economic, or ability diversity in individuals or families. You MUST attend a FREE and ONLINE event, meeting, speaker, celebration, parade, or some other experiential activity involving members of this particular issue or group in RECENT DAYS. (Please include evidence of your participation such as the link.)
You MUST answer the following questions in the order:
1) Your initial thoughts and feelings about this issue or group.
2) Your thoughts and feelings about Yourself in relation to this issue or group.
3) Explore your experience.
4) After participating in this activity, reflect on your prior preconceived ideas. Which of those preconceived ideas are now open to reinterpretation and why?
5) What have you learned about yourself and about this issue or group? Assume you are Counseling an individual from this group or with this particular issue, how would you best meet their needs in counseling? What are some advocacy issues with this particular group or others and how could you address them?
