Papers should include a thorough explanation of how the person’s life/experience/work speaks to or exemplifies the identified themes/topics. 3-5 outside scholarly sources must be engaged in formulating your analysis. Your thesis statement should include a concise synthesis of your analysis of the politician/activist.

Prepare a pop culture essay that reflects upon course content and are examples of women (as defined from an intersectional feminist perspective) presented as subordinate, examples of sexism and misogyny, or examples of resistance to oppression. This assignment wraps up our five-week conversation about the subordination and oppression of women in cultures around the globe and gives you a chance to reflect upon what you have learned.
Plan for Writing
identify the topic and theme of your pop culture essay. The essay should develop a personal narrative that paints a picture of women, the obstacles they face, cultures’ views of women, as well as sites of resistance.
Select 8-10 photos, lyrics/songs, memes, advertisements, short video, or other pop culture artifact to include in your essay. You are welcome to use your or photos or images, while others can be taken from news, internet sources, social media, etc. Be sure to cite the source of your artifact (Links to an external site.) in your works cited.
At the top/start, provide an introductory paragraph and background about your selected theme. You will want to include a thesis statement to help you stay focused on your theme. Be sure to address why this topic is important in terms of gender and equity. Next, lead the reader to your artifacts in a specific order. For each pop culture artifact, explain how it supports your thesis and draw upon sources from this class to connect your photo to the larger cultural issues.

Students will each choose three scholarly articles that discuss three perspectives on women in the Bible (examples of perspectives include feminist, historical, literary, rejectionist, revisionist or loyalist) and discuss the three authors’ viewpoints (rubric).
