There are many issues in early learning and child care that are fraught with controversy, people have many different viewpoints on these issues. Some examples of issues that are useful for a student to study the research on are: wages in child care, what is the difference between a private center and one that is non-profit. Throughout this course students will be encouraged to think critically about a wide range of issues and present their ideas with strong supporting evidence where possible, this will particularly apply to the advocacy project. Student may use this research/position paper as an opportunity to research a current topic in ELCC of their choice and it may be used as ‘evidence’ later in their advocacy project.
tudents can choose their own topic or one of the following topics related to social policy in child care:
Wages and working conditions in ELCC
An introduction, a research question (why you have chosen this topic and what you hope to explore) a position statement (clearly states students position on the topic), literature review (5 paragraphs minimum and each paragraph needs an in text citation that is referenced in your reference list) and a conclusion (what you discovered and how this answers your research question(s)).
