Task:
In a 3-5 page typed paper, write a compare and contrast paper that discusses two of the following art movements listed below along with one specific artist that belongs to the movements you have chosen (2 art movements, 2 artists). You may select movements that you find interesting, inspiring or repulsive. You can choose art movements that you are familiar with, but it’s best if you choose ones that you don’t know anything about. Refer to the previous content page project as a glimpse into the various art movements that are in the visual art field. The pages created by yourself and your peers will help you narrow down which movements you would like to use for this project. The purpose of this paper assignment is for you to gain a more in depth knowledge of art movements, artists, and to learn about what the importance art movements have in the visual art field, and in society.

Movements- Choose Two from the List Below: Refer to Chapter 16-20 in the eTextbook- World of Art by Henry M. Sayre for a brief timeline of each art movement. Also refer to the Content Pages created by your classmates.

Ideas you should incorporate into your paper but not limited to:
Describe the artworks concepts (ideas/intentions, subject matter of the movements)
Write about social/political issues pertaining to the work from the movements
Briefly mention time period in which the movement was associated with
(how does this time period play a part in the work)
Identify how the artists work evolved from early works to his/her later works
Discuss the factors which changed his/her style of painting, sculpture, printmaking, etc.
Investigate how did the work fit into the art movement in which it is classified
Discuss and criticize a particular piece of artwork from the artists selected,
(analyze the work briefly…I’m mean briefly using class terminology, discuss the subject of the artwork and explain how the artwork reflects the subject: subjective, objective, representational, abstract, minimal, etc.

Describe, evaluate and critically discuss the artwork you are looking at in terms of the basic components of art (subject, form and content). How does the artwork achieve each component.

**Be sure to include a thesis within your first paragraph and use it as the focus of your paper.
Include in the conclusion your personal opinion on the the art movements and artists you chose to discuss in the paper.
After the foundation/thesis is set move on to the analysis along with the comparison and contrasting material. It would be ideal to quickly outline the points you are going to discuss before tackling writing the research paper.

Your goal is to find a concept for the two movements that you want to discuss and then formulate that idea into a complete sentence to include as your last sentence in your introduction paragraph.
