Religion relies heavily on rituals because they give followers a way to express and validate their religious beliefs. Communication is one of the fundamental goals of rituals. Rituals help to connect with oneself, others, or their Gods. A significant component of religion is ritual. It aids in developing identity and provides people with a sense of belonging. Yes, I believe power and hierarchy are present, the way these religious ceremonies are performed shows authority and hierarchy. These practices are generally or only ever performed by priests or other individuals who are seen as belonging to a higher authority or social hierarchy. They have power and control over others and religious proceedings thanks to this bestowed or otherwise inherited authority.
The priests who conduct these numerous rituals are the manifestation of this rank order in many religions. From the lowest religious figures to the local leaders among the many religions all the way to top religious leaders in the world. There are numerous symbols for every single different religion plus numerous different religious symbols around the globe. For the most part, I would say that some pieces of art, sculptures, and architecture are just purely symbolic. Even while many of these artifacts today may or may not precisely coincide with the faith they represent, many of them once paid homage in show of pure devoutness to their respective religions by displaying them to the public. These symbols convey the power and influence that religions have over people who practice or accept them and how it is intertwined in every fabric of their lives. Naturally, people will express themselves outwardly in their work.
Rituals are the means by which civilizations maintain their identity, persevering with the past and passing on their heritage to those who will carry on long after. It is a direct link to the past that enables individuals to connect with the source of their beliefs. These rituals include prayer, going to religious services, celebrating/participating in holiday events, fasting, pilgrimages to holy sites and cities.
