This weeks art shall come from inside of a public building.
Art All Around assignments consist of describing and analyzing works of art and architecture that you encounter on a regular basis. It should not be a work that you yourself have created as the objective of this assignment is to appreciate art created by others. This is an exercise to increase your awareness and appreciation of art that you encounter on a regular basis. If you are a world traveler, then by all means share art from around the world with us. However, the photo of the artwork should be created specifically for this assignment (meaning, don’t just look through your past photos for something that serves the purpose – instead, notice the art around you this week).
In each week’s blog title, a different location will be indicated for the week, such as HOME, WORK/CAMPUS, TOWN, etc. For example, in the first AAA blog the theme is HOME and that is the location in which you should be finding the work of art. Name your post with the location, type of art it is, or another descriptive title.
Though you are providing a photo of the artwork, your photo is not the work of art. For example, a photo you have taken of a beautiful sunset is not acceptable. A photo of a painting portraying a sunset that is hanging on the wall of your workplace would be acceptable.
Two or more descriptive paragraphs are to be written about each of the chosen artworks, using the criteria for ‘What is Art’ as explained in Chapter Two of the text, and the concepts and language of art elements and principles found in Chapters Four and Five, as well as any other text reference. These entries should include a photograph of the artwork.
Consider how the following relate to your artwork and address them in your post:
Is the artwork representational or abstract?
If it’s not either of those, would you call it nonrepresentational? What makes it so?
In your own words, briefly describe the style used in the painting. Don’t worry about identifying the art historical style such as impressionistic or cubist; just describe how it was painted (cartoonish, childlike, very stiff, etc.).
What is the form (the physical appearance) and what is the content (subject matter)?
Remember to embed your image with your text, but do not attach it in a Word document. (Instructions for how to embed an image with your text are in the Student Questions discussion board. Please avoid .heic files as they require downloading to view) Check your post after creating it to be sure your image embedded or attached correctly to avoid any loss of points.
