P‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌aper Topic:
Bullying (Ages 6-8)
Throughout the course and in your readings you will identify many topics that affect child development that ranges from achievements and milestones, to circumstances and obstacles. They can also include disorders or diagnoses. For instance, some of the issues you will come across are SIDS, immigration, learning disabilities, autism, anxiety, ADHD, bullying, trauma, among many others. Pick any one topic that you have come across in the course so far, and explore that topic in the childhood stage. Define the issue/topic that you will be exploring and do not try to focus on two or more topics at the same time. If a concept ties in to your topic, explain it and demonstrate its relation to the main topic, but do not take away from the focus of the main topic. For example, if your topic of choice is to explore the issue of moral development in the childhood stage you can explore how rewards and punishment might factor in at this stage, but do not let the focus of your paper be about rewards and/or punishment. Another example is if you try to explore learning disabilities, then you discuss the impact of trauma on the development on learning disabilities, but then the rest of your paper is exploring trauma rather than learning disabilities. Stay‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ on your topic, and when you explore supporting concepts, don’t let those concepts hijack the focus of the paper. If you have a clear topic you would like to discuss, the more you will be able to explore the issues that arise in childhood when it comes to the identified topic.
When you have selected a topic or issue to focus on, explore how this issue affects children and include a discussion of how this issue impacts learning. Explore any indicators, risk factors, or coping mechanisms for these children and techniques that research have suggested that teachers implement in addressing these issues. Give statistics (if appropriate) to support your point of view and cite research to defend the statements that you are making. You have freedom to define this term paper, but there must be a clearly defined issue/topic. Support your work with data, research and citations. Please do not include personal anecdotes in the paper.
Paper: Papers should be a minimum of 8 pages of content in length, written in 12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced and in APA format. The 8-page minimum does not include the cover/title page, abstract, and references page. Papers will be evaluated based on content, thoughtfulness, use of applicable theory, relevant citations, clarity, and gramm‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ar.
