There are many choices to be viewed with a little research toward finding titles and productions that represent your interests and viewpoint. These papers should be AT LEAST three (3) pages and not over four (4) pages and each should include a Works Cited page with a minimum of two sources. These reaction report papers should present your viewpoint and cite research to support your argument or point of view. Generally, they should not exceed around 1500 words and are to be written in MLA format. Observations are NOT reviews, they represent your personal perspective, life experience, and developing voice. You are writing “your observations” and the content should be your personal reaction to the theatre production you attended or viewed supported by appropriate sources. Your personal observation is more important for class than what the reviewers have published. Your personal response to the theatre production and the aesthetic method in which you support your response is what determines your grade. You are not writing to match or adopt your perception of what the course instructor might like or dislike. Present your opinions and support them with documentation and/or the observations of others. Papers include researching and analyzing the author’s themes, researching critical writings about the play, play reviews of productions of the play/novel, and descriptions of how the play/novel might be visualized including casting, costuming, makeup, set design, reading a selection from the play, and any other creative endeavor you might include.
