Essay on the Mystery of the Trinity: Reflecting on the classical Christian doctrine of the Trinity formulate a thesis in which you formulate an argument that reflects your view of the doctrine of the Trinity. The argument should reflect that either you: 1) completely agree with the classical doctrine of the Trinity, 2) partly agree with the classical doctrine of the Trinity meaning that you disagree with parts of the doctrine of the Trinity, or 3) completely disagree with the doctrine of the Trinity. If you choose to completely agree with the classical view then you must provide solid evidence for your argument that in the Godhead are three persons in one (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit) and that they are coequal and coeternal giving equal attention to each person of the Trinity in your essay and explain the reasons why utilizing material from the theologians and/or theologies we have discussed. If you choose to partly agree with the classical view then you must provide solid evidence for your point of departure with the classical view. For example, if you don’t believe that the persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal or if believe that the Son is subordinate to the Father and the Holy Spirit is subordinate to the Son then you must provide solid evidence for your argument utilizing material from the theologians and/or theologies we have discussed. If you choose to completely disagree with the classical view then you must provide solid evidence for your rejection of the doctrine of the Trinity. For example, if you embrace any of the theologies characterized as Christological heresies such as Sabellianism which asserts that there is one God that is manifested in three modes not that there are three persons or Arianism which suggests that the Son is not begotten of the Father but the Son is the first created being of the Father, or Unitarianism which suggests that God is a single entity and not three forms as expressed in the classical view of the Trinity then you must provide solid evidence for your argument utilizing material from the theologians and/or theologies we have discussed. The essay should incorporate at least two scholarly sources in addition to the course text. ESSAY must be submitted in the Blackboard course on November 13 and must be submitted by 11:59 pm.
