MODULE 2 DISCUSSION – Thinking and Acting Strategically

Strategy is the game plan for institutions of higher education.
In your own words, what is strategy? What is strategic planning? How do strategy and strategic planning impact institutions of higher education? How can knowledge of strategy assist you as a leader in making decisions about resource management?

HE 6113 MODULE 1 DISCUSSION – Managing Financial Resources

MODULE 1 DISCUSSION – Managing Financial Resources
Within higher education, financial resources are not always plentiful.
How can you as a leader use financial management to help you make the hard decisions about where and how to allocate needed resources? How can you responsibly appraise the merits of financial needs, equitably allocate resources, and at the same time ensure institutional stability?

Critical Thinking/Other Assignment
After Reading Chapter 6 research and discuss the following.
1. Henry Jones is a second-year college student. Last semester his best friend had his laptop stolen. The laptop was an old computer that he planned to replace soon, but the greatest loss was his data. He had not performed a backup and all his data was lost. Henry himself does not perform data backups but knows that he needs to do that on a regular basis. He has decided to use an online backup service that will automatically back up his data whenever it changes. Evaluate and compare reviews on online backup services. Consider iDrive, Carbonite, Acronis True Image, BackBlaze, and others you might find in your research. Recommend a service that you consider the best solution for Henry. Discuss your reviews and mention speed, security and features in your recommendation.
2. Jamie Patterson is completing her degree at a community college and intends to transfer to a university next semester. She has kept a Microsoft Word document that lists her account user names and passwords, but she knows that she needs something much more secure to create and manage her passwords and account information. Evaluate and compare reviews of three password managers, at least one of which can be used on a mobile device. Consider KeePass, Bitwarden, Enpass, KeePassXC, and others you might find in your research. Recommend two password managers: one for when Jamie uses her laptop, and one for when she uses her mobile phone. Discuss your experiences with these password managers and mention security and features in your recommendations.
